The UNIVERGE WL Wireless Controllers are the cornerstone of the UNIVERGE WL converged mobility solution, coordinating security, RF management, intrusion detection, Quality of Service (QoS) and mobility functions across an entire wireless network. UNIVERGE WL Wireless Controllers work in conjunction with the UNIVERGE WL Control System and UNIVERGE WL1250 Access Points to enable business-critical wireless applications. The UNIVERGE WL Wireless Controller provides the control, scalability and reliability that IT managers need to build enterprise-scale wireless voice and data networks.
The UNIVERGE WL Wireless Controller is available in the following model numbers: the 3006, 3012, 3025, 3050, and 3100. All models come in a compact 1U footprint. The 3006 is a six-port device that is targeted at the branch office wireless deployment. The 3006 enables all the RF management and exceptional features of the larger controllers in a small package. The 3012, 3025, 3050, and 3100, in a 1RU chassis, are the newest additions to the 3000 Series of wireless controllers and bring additional capabilities and capacities to the product line. These new models support 12, 25, 50, and 100 access points respectively. Additional capabilities and features are described in more detail in the links in the left-hand column.
A Wireless Controllers is embedded in the enterprise wired network, where it provides RF management and wireless security functions via a traditional Ethernet LAN switch (across a Layer 2/Layer 3 connection). In this embedded mode, the UNIVERGE WL Wireless Controller communicates indirectly with associated UNIVERGE WL1250 Access Points through the switched network on a distribution port. Power for the Access Points must be supplied from either local AC power adapters, or from an 802.3af-compliant device, such as 802.3af power injector modules or Power over Ethernet compliant Layer 2 switch.
